Uncommon History: Boston Common & the Public Garden

Making this map gave me the chance to explore Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and to learn more about the history of my hometown.

Inspired by a class I’m taking this semester about Cultural Atlases, I created this infographic about one of my favorite places – Boston Common and the Public Garden. It was interesting to research the history of a place whose paths I’ve walked so many times, and to discover new things about it, all while learning some new techniques in Illustrator and Photoshop.

While this map gives an overview of the Common and Public Garden, it doesn’t fully encapsulate my personal experience of these public spaces.

Check out this project to see aspects of the park that wouldn’t be visible to an objective historian or to the naked eye.
